Tabuh oh Tabuh

Last Friday evening, I received a call from Gerakan Dang Wangi, informing me of an injured climber at Bukit Tabuh. A group of Civil Defence rescuers were mobilised and dispatched to the scene. Upon reaching the victim, it was suspected that she may had a broken leg. After immobilizing her legs, she was wrapped up in a Sked Stretcher, flexible enough to be rolled up but yet sturdy enough when assembled.

The new (blue) and old (green) uniform...i prefer the latter

The very next day, on Saturday, I received a similar call from Gerakan...Bukit Tabuh, 4 kali mangsa, 2 cedera. Wow...now for those of you not familiar with Bukit Tabuh, the climb is quite treacherous. Bringing down 2 to 4 injured people would be a heavy task. Evaluating the seriousness,we called in the 'Penyelamat DBKL' to assist us Civil Defence guys as back up. Our first team of 4 rescuers managed to track the climbers. It was then that....we found out the 4 climbers were actually lost, but somehow communicated to the 999 emergency operator that they were injured!!! They were given a stern warning by the police.

The moral of the story? In the unlikely event that you need help...... please, please, please communicate the right information. Rescue needs proper planning, and its normally manpower intensive....especially when it comes to SAR (Search & Rescue). Giving the wrong information can cause a chain of events; causing unnecessary movement of vehicles and manpower, thus depriving others of its better usage.
